Courtyard Happy Hour: Raising the Bar & Shifting Our Focus

Kings’ Cup hosted a Courtyard Happy Hour that was part gathering, part content day.

This evening started with a simple idea to capture what Kings' Cup actually looks like in practice. The goal was twofold: First, to document the three ways Kings' Cup serves our clients: mobile bartending, tasting experiences, and pairings. Second, to photograph some pieces from our growing Carriage House vintage collection.

Every piece has been thoughtfully curated, and then intentionally layered throughout the yard to create spaces where people could have a conversation and settle in. Styling spaces like these is one of our favorite service areas that we would like to do more of.

For the evening, we created two distinct bar experiences: one was clean, modern, and understated; the other leaned into our vintage collection, pairing timeless furnishings with a more intimate cocktail experience.

In some ways, the evening looked familiar. We always host friends this time of year. Normally, we'd cook ourselves, spend the day in the kitchen, and put out a few seasonal punches for everyone to enjoy. Yet this time was different. We had to stay behind the bar and in front of the camera. Instead of planning a menu around what we wanted to make, we ordered dishes that complemented the featured spirits.

And honestly, that was harder than we expected.

Hospitality usually asks us to be fully present with our guests. This evening asked us to divide our attention, to notice the light, reposition a chair, pause a conversation for a photograph, and think about the story we were trying to tell. It reminded us that documenting an experience is very different from simply living one.

Still, by the end of the night, we realized the story wasn't really about the cameras.

It was about the people who gathered, the spaces we created, and the moments that happened between them. That's where this documentary begins.
